Jake & Kiva’s Tiny House Resources

Our Project

diy tiny house built high five

We started our DIY tiny house journey in 2013 with a lot of online research. At that time, information was scarce and there wasn’t a YouTube series that showed an entire tiny home build from start to finish. So we said “Why not make one?” - well, today we could answer that question with “Because it will be an incredible amount of work!” - but after years of positive feedback, we’re happy to have contributed to the tiny/minimalist/sustainable movement, and we’re not done yet! It will take time, but now that our tiny house is finished, we plan on producing a “What We Would Do Differently” series where we review all of our existing videos and talk about what worked and what didn’t. So make sure to Subscribe To Our YouTube Channel and follow us on Social Media.

We designed the Tiny Nest ourselves from scratch, to be sure that it would meet our needs and suit our lifestyle. We used the 3D modeling software SketchUp to plan every inch of the structure. Since it came together so well, we decided to create a SketchUp Tutorial as a way to share the knowledge that we gained, and to create revenue that would support our online efforts. For those who are already familiar with SketchUp, we also provide our SketchUp Project File on its own, by donation.

Our SketchUp resources, and many others, can be found on our Resources page.

About Us

We are Jake & Kiva, a Canadian couple living on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. The Tiny Nest Project started as a conversation in 2012 after watching a documentary on small/alternative living spaces. After a period of research, design, and money-saving, we moved to Kiva’s family farm in July of 2014, to begin building. We now live in our tiny home with our dog Jackson, cat Ninja, and horse TC (ok well, the horse lives outside :P). We plan to keep the Tiny Nest on the property, and hope to continue growing our online tiny house resources to put something positive and meaningful out into the world, while at the same time generating modest revenue to support our low-cost lifestyle.
